When it comes to using the Dell3010cn printer, the folks at Dell have made it more attractive than ever. Combining sharp color printing with the ability to network with small workgroups, for about the same price as a similar monochrome printer, the 3010cn may be just what’s needed in the small office printer biz. Dell 3010cn toner cartridges are also standard with this unit.
Specifications. The printer is no lightweight, at about 55 pounds. But that’s well within acceptable range for a color laser printer offering what this one does. At a bit over 16 inches by 16 inches by 17 inches, it’s also of a size that would allow it to fit onto a desktop or in a corner of a room in some home-based business.
How’s the Print Quality? The Dell 3010cn produces text at about 25ppm, which is more than acceptable for printers at this price point. Color printing knocks it down to 5 or so a minute, but quality is very good, so that’s a definite plus. With 600dpi of clarity, text and other printed materials should look good enough for general business purposes. And it can be a long time between maintenance sessions due to its 45,000 page-per-month duty cycle. That contributes to keeping down overall printer costs in the long run. Paper trays come in standard 250 sheet size and optional 450 sheet trays.
Operating Compatibility. The Dell 3010cn marries up well with most any Windows operating system, and also Novell or NT4.0 platforms. USB 2.0 and Ethernet ports sit at the backside of the unit for ease of access.
Memory Banks. With an installed 64 megabytes of memory, the 3010cn can handle most average home-business print jobs. If you need more than that, you can add memory all the way up to 576 megs. Given the wide range of memory points available, there shouldn’t be a problem handling just about any print job.
Warranty Packages. 24/7 on-site service calls are covered for the first year. After that, an additional 48 months can be had for a nominal fee. Home-based users get the non-business version of the same plan, also for an extra fee when extending it out.
Dell 3010cn Toners. Using a Dell 3010 toner cartridge, the printer is easy enough to keep up and running. Installed cartridges are rated to a couple thousand pages, but longer-lasting units are available through Dell or several aftermarket cartridge makers. It’s not unusual, in casual usage, to go more than a couple years before needing new print cartridges. When you factor that in, per-page costs can be relatively low as compared to similar printers on the market.
