Probably at one time in your life, you took a book inventory. You looked at all the spines of all the books and decided you’d make a list of them. You might have done it as a child on a rainy afternoon or you may have been grown up and simply felt the urge to make a comprehensive list of all the books you’d accumulated over the years. And when you were finished with your list, you were probably pretty impressed at how many books you had. You might have even forgotten about some until you made the list.

Your book inventory was probably either on paper or typed with a manual typewriter, if you’re a little bit more mature, or maybe it was even typed into a word processor or database. You probably erased several times because you wanted to put the books into a different order, or you had to keep adding columns and categories in your database. It likely became a much bigger and more time-consuming project that you’d imagined it (unless you did do it as a child) and yet you still enjoyed it.

Book inventory software can help you enjoy doing that again, but this time with a modern technological twist. You’ll type in the title (or just even a word from the title, or a keyword) then choose the book from the list that appears. And then . . . you’ll do the same for the next one. That’s it. All of the work of taking a book inventory is done for you. The book is added with just a few clicks, letting you get back to the (fun) business of adding more books.

The hardest part will be remembering all the books you own that aren’t on your shelves and readily visible, like those you’ve loaned out. Most book lovers enjoy sharing a good book, and great book inventory software knows that. So using the software, you can keep track of books you lend out. You’ll know who has them and how long they’ve had them, so you’ll never forget about a book.

And the best book inventory software fully embraces the technology that allows it to exist, by allowing you to keep an inventory of your ebooks right along with your traditional books. As a book lover, you’ve probably got some floating around on your hard drive. They go in with a few clicks, too, so you can keep track of all your books in every form.

Once you’ve created your book inventory, the real fun begins. Add labels to books. Hated it? Make a “Stinks” label and apply it to those you didn’t like. You can sort so they’re all together. Want to label your romance novels as “Cultural Materials” and your old textbooks as “Torture Tomes?” Do it! And don’t forget how much fun it can be to share with others. You can export your book inventory to HTML and put it online for other book collectors and readers of “Cultural Materials” to see.

BGA stands for Ball Grid Array. A web definition from PrincetonUSA explains it as, “A type of memory chip with solder balls on the underside for mounting. Use of BGA allows die package size to be reduced because there is more surface area for attachment. Smaller packaging allows more components to be mounted on a module, making greater densities available. The smaller package also improves heat dissipation for better performance. See CSP and FBGA”.

It is a form of packaging used for electronic circuits that are integrated and surface mounted. The integrated circuits contain components that are actually affixed or mounted to the board of the circuit semiconductor, which is printed. A package of BGA appears like a wafer thin material of semi conductor that contains on one of its faces, the circuit components. This package is named so due to in its basic form; it is an array of balls made of metal alloy arranged in a formation that resembles a grid. Further integrated circuit packaging includes the Pin Grid Array, or PGA. Both appear similar, as both of them are one sided, meaning one of its faces contains substrate for semi conducting, which is used for mounting and printing of the circuit components. The pattern that appears as a grid is also a similarity between them, with the PGA uses pins and the BGA utilizes balls.

BGA manufacture starts of with a printed and primed circuit board, where the pads which are made of copper are arranged in a grid appearing pattern. The solder balls are calculated to have these. Following the precise arrangement of the solder balls upon the printed face of the circuit board’s surface, the process of soldering begins. Mount soldering of the surface proceeds through to reflow soldering, using a reflow oven, which uses vapors or infrared as its heat source. The balls of metal alloy melt because of extreme temperatures, which lead to cooling afterwards. The solder balls then solidify and the package becomes affixed firmly to the circuit board.

BGA’s advantages make the precise mounting and alignment possible. Before BGA came about, single circuit boards required numerous pins, which presented problems in positioning. When the assembly heated up, pins facing each other sometimes soldered together, thereby forming unplanned bridges. Heat conduction is another advantage of BGA over the other packaging types. BGA contains less heat resistance, making it easier for heat to flow to the circuit board that is printed from the components of the mounted circuit. This reduces overheating risks considerably. BGA’s contact points, that is the contact point between the actual circuit board that is printed and the solder balls on the surface is not easily apparent. The actualization of this is greater application and data society.

Some disadvantages of integrated circuits that feature BGA packaging are somewhat inflexible. Rigorous strain upon the integrated circuit can cause the contact tips or the balls to sever off. Moreover, expensive tools would be needed to fix construction or design errors, should they be found.

Few technologies have made as sudden an impact on the telecommunications industry as Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP). In a matter of only years, VOIP has changed the way people think about their phone service and, more specifically, the power of the Internet. But is it all just talk, or are there real benefits to be had for you and your business? The following information sheds some light on the most important ways VOIP can change the way you call. How is VOIP Technology Changing the Phone Business?

Here are 5 ways VOIP technology is reshaping the phone business around the world:

Unifying Internet and Phone Technology. One of the promises of modern consumer electronics is the synthesis of varying utilities in a single hub (or videogame machine would be our web browser, etc.). VOIP helps realize this promise by giving people the power to control their phone communications from their computer.

Ending the reliance on land-line phones. Already, millions of individuals have given up their traditional land-line phones in favor of their cell phones. Now, more and more people are cutting the cord because of access to VOIP.

Providing free calls to millions of customers. One of the strongest selling points of VOIP phone systems continues to be the FREE calling from one service customer to another. If you and your friends, family, business partners or clients have access to the same VOIP service, the calls are gratis with most providers.

Freeing customers from the bonds of big telecommunications companies. For far too long, big telecom providers have held their customers hostage with high prices and long-term commitments. VOIP providers, on the other hand, have taken things in another direction. By giving people more power to choose their own calling plans and remove the limits that long-term contracts have placed on them.

By helping businesses save money. Businesses that choose to work with VOIP technology can potentially save thousands of dollars on infrastructure costs. Without having to worry about heavy phone installations, equipment and draconian service arrangements, businesses of all sizes can use much needed funds to develop their business in other ways.

VOIP usage for businesses and individuals has seen double-digit growth in each of the past several years. This is happening because more people are learning about this innovative, ground-breaking technology and jumping on board. Low start up costs and easy-access are also helping to fuel this growth in what looks to be a dominant part of the communications landscape for years to come.

What Makes the MICR Toner Special?

Have you ever wondered why banks impose a clearing time on checks and why it takes some time to get checks processed? It takes time to process checks because checks need to go through a machine that banks call a reader-sorter. Just as what its name implies, a reader-sorter machine sorts out checks based on the information printed on the check itself. However, the reader-sorter would only work if the correct ink is used in printing out the check. The correct ink is called an MICR toner.

What is a MICR Toner?

What is a MICR toner? The MICR toner is a special kind of ink that was specifically made to make the automation of check processing possible. There is a precise formula used for creating MICR toners, and the standard for producing them is mandated and regulated by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

Basically, what makes the MICR toner a unique type of ink is that it contains iron oxide. The letters on MICR stand for “magnetic ink character recognition” and it is the iron oxide component that gives the MICR toner its magnetic properties. The magnetic properties of this ink are what allow the reader-sorter to be able to read and process a check. A correctly formulated MICR toner is supposed to emit the right signal to the reader-sorter to make the reading possible.

Precision Printing with MICR Toners

MICR toners need to be produced in just the right way in order to make using them for printing checks work. ANSI requires MICR toners to emit the correct signal strength so the ink can be read by the reader-sorter machine.

But beyond the quality of the ink itself, the American Bankers Association (ABA) has set standards on fonts printed on checks. The fonts used on MICR lines, which is the line of information located on the bottom of each check, were specifically designed to make them machine-readable. In Israel, South America and the Mediterranean countries, the standard font is called the CMC-7. In the United States and the rest of the world, the MICR font used is the E-13B.

Precision is extremely necessary to make check printing with MICR toners work. The ABA imposes a strict fixed width for each MICR font character, which is 1/8th of an inch. Also, these characters have to be printed on the exact spot on the check where they are supposed to be. If these two conditions are not followed, then the reader-sorter machine would not be able to read and process the check.

Another beautiful thing with MICR toners is that they provide a degree of security when it comes to printing checks. Checks need to be printed using an MICR toner; one cannot use any ordinary ink. Some banks catch fraudulent checks, those printed with ordinary inks.

Other Uses of the MICR Toner

Since precision and security are benchmarks of the MICR toner, many other industries have adopted the use of this special ink for their own printing needs. Airlines use MICR toners for printing their tickets. The same goes for events and concerts – their tickets are made with MICR toners as well. Most documents that require security and precision have come to rely on MICR toners to provide them these.

Distance learning has been cited as being the future of mid-career retraining and skills development, but with a plethora of qualifications to choose from, it can be difficult to narrow down which certificate will open more doors for newly qualified members of the IT community.

The traditional choice has been between the Government-backed NVQ system and vendor qualifications such as those created by the likes of Microsoft and Cisco. The NVQ system is fine if you want a generic overview of IT, but is lacking when it comes to developing software/hardware-specific skills. The other major problem with NVQ qualifications is that they are not in demand within the IT industry whereas vendor qualifications are. With no Government funding to back courses leading to vendor qualifications, this makes the most sought-after Microsoft qualifications unobtainable to those who cannot afford the fees, unless supported by employers or though committed personal funding. This is a crying shame for the IT industry, because it’s these vendor qualifications that are most in demand in an expanding industry ruled by the mighty Microsoft.

Businesses can receive government funding to retrain their employees towards NVQ qualifications. However, this precludes the individual seeking a career change, because few employers are going to use government funds to cross train an employee and then stand by and watch them apply for a job at a different company involving their new skills.

The higher level NVQs are awarded following a period of work place assessment. Again, this precludes the individual seeking a career change. It’s a classic Catch 22 situation, without the qualification you stand less chance of gaining a new career, but you cannot gain an NVQ without work place assessment!

Another problem is the ability to update NVQ curriculums to match the pace of technological advancement within the IT industry, in particular software development. This is where vendor training is far more relevant and where Microsoft training in particular comes into its own.

There is no debating the fact that Microsoft’s Windows is the operating system of choice for both personal and business use. Microsoft has been at the forefront of the IT revolution for over 20 years now, and doesn’t look like relinquishing its crown to any newcomers any time soon. This means that Microsoft software will continue to develop and integrate itself into the business world, requiring workers trained specifically in its operation and future developments currently in the pipeline. Qualifications such as the Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician certificate give those holding it the opportunity to work wherever Microsoft software is used – which is just about everywhere these days. These vendor qualifications are more relevant than a generic NVQ, and certainly look better on a CV because it tells a prospective employer that the candidate is capable of using the employer’s network software or hardware.

NVQs certainly have their place in skills development and retraining, even in mid-career. The differing levels of NVQ qualification enable everyone to update their CV with a generic certificate that shows an ability to grasp the general principles of IT or software/hardware use and maintenance. However what employers are looking for now is a workforce that has specific training in a particular area and to a very high level. In this instance, vendor qualifications win hands down every time.

Positioning is one of the most important factors to consider when setting up your satellite TV system. No matter how excellent your satellite TV system is, if you’ve chosen a poor site to install your satellite dish then all your efforts will simply come to nothing.

The Right Dish

Naturally, before you consider the ideal position for your satellite dish, you must make sure you’ve also purchased the best satellite dish for your system. There are several factors to consider when shopping for a satellite dish.

A larger dish receives stronger signals, but it has its own cons as well. For one thing, larger satellite dishes means you stand to lose more because bigger dishes are always more expensive than smaller ones. Naturally, a bigger dish would need bigger space for installation as well; the question is whether you have enough space for it. Wind disturbance is also a factor you should consider when installing a large dish.

Larger dishes often make use of C signal while smaller dishes make use of KU signal.

Surveying Your Location

Before determining the ideal position for your satellite dish, you must find out a few pertinent things about your location. The first thing you need to determine is the corresponding coordinates (longitude and latitude) of your location. With it, you’ll know the requirements you have to comply with in order to achieve the ideal setup for your satellite dish. There are websites that can help you determine your location’s coordinates. GPS can also help.

Basically, your satellite dish must be pointing towards the southern sky. If you are in the southern hemisphere, you need to point north and vice versa. If you live along the equator, you only have to point your satellite dish upward. The distance of your satellite dish from the ground will also matter and is dependent on your distance from the equator.

Choosing the Right Position or Site

Here are a number of factors you should consider when searching for the ideal position of your satellite dish.

Height

Simply put, the higher the better because greater altitude will mean a shorter path for signal to traverse from satellites in space all the way to your satellite dish. Make sure you also keep your satellite dish out of reach from children and small animals. Satellite dishes are quite breakable and while they may not be as expensive before, why shoulder extra expense when you don’t have to?

Obstacles

It’s extremely important that no obstacle should block the path of your satellite dish to the southern skies. Tall trees, buildings, and other edifices could make reception for your satellite TV poor and fuzzy. In most cases, you’ll have an easier time finding an obstacle-free path to the southern skies if you don’t live in the city.

Surface and Support

Do not install your satellite dish on any flimsy surface. Even roofs are not always ideal, especially if they’re not made of concrete or something equally tough and heavy.

Wind Direction

Wind disturbance could cause problems for your satellite TV. To avoid such complications, consider install your satellite dish on a south-facing wall. That way, the wall could serve as a wind buffer for your dish.

Now that you know how to choose the ideal position of your satellite dish, the only thing left to do is to ensure that you’ve installed it properly and securely to outlast even the worst hurricanes in your area.

Thomas Martinez has contributed many articles on the HDTV topics especially on Satellite TVs.

The main reason people choose prepaid cell phones is not to save money, but to avoid or get rid of an offensive contract agreement. Wireless contracts seem to have been written in the dark ages, and here are some things you need to know about them.

Your wireless contract is about way more than just agreeing to keep the service for a specific amount of time. If you read the fine print you’ll be appalled at some of the terms you are asked to agree to.

No Service? Too Bad.

First of all, there’s the obvious issue of not being able to try the service on before you commit. If your vendor doesn’t work in your neighborhood, too bad; you’ve singed the contract and there’s no backing out for lack of service.

Understand this is NOT uncommon with contract wireless services who rely only on specific tower networks. Prepaid cell phones, on the other hand, will normally work through any tower network that is nearby.

Of course this benefit doesn’t stand when you buy a prepaid plan from a contract vendor. True prepaid cell phone services operate as stand-alone entities, apart from their contract-based competitors.

Instant Contract Renewal Without Your Consent

Once you’re plugged into a contract with a wireless company, don’t plan on simply getting out of it when the time is up. Often, your contract will auto renew unless you specifically cancel it, and many companies will only allow you to cancel on the very last day of the contract term!

You should also know that any time you buy a car charger, extra handset, or calling plan upgrade the sales rep can (and usually does) extend your contract without even telling you about it. This is all fair play according to the contract you signed but probably didn’t read in the beginning.

Contracts You Signed Can Be Changed At Any Time

Perhaps the most outrageous part of wireless contract plans is the fact that the company without your knowledge or consent can change them at any time. Your signature binds you to any changes the company wants to make in the future, including clauses to make it harder for you to get out from under your agreement!

It’s actually shocking that such blatant manipulation and bullying of the consumer is even legal. And frankly it’s little wonder that over 60% of all global wireless users opt for prepaid cell phone service.

Putting Your Foot Down And Ending The Contract Nightmare

Of course the best way to avoid these insane contracts is not to sign them. You should choose a prepaid cell phone plan instead of using a major contract provider.

But if you’ve already been sucked into an unfair contract, what can you do to get out?

You’ll be forced to pay a fee that ranges from $150 to $1,500 if you choose to breech your contract. You could of course hire a lawyer to find a loophole, but you won’t save any money going that route.

Honestly, paying the breech fee is nothing compared to the money you could lose if you stay with your contract provider. So just sucking it up and shelling out is one way to get clear.

Also, be aware that you can’t be forced to pay this fee. So you could simply terminate your account and refuse to pay the breech fee.

Your contract provider will of course report this to credit companies. But no collection team will come to your home demanding the money.

And it’s easy to get a credit counselor to help you dispute an item on your credit report. You’d be surprised what you can get removed with a little persistence.

This advice may not be “white hat” to a lot of people, but how forthright and righteous are these ludicrous contract arrangements we’ve been talking about? The bottom line is: you need to do what’s necessary to stand up for yourself and refuse to be pushed around by these insensitive, money-hungry contract wireless providers.

Dump your contract today

Biofuels are created by converting organic matters into fuel so that mankind can be supplied with energy. The biofuels represent alternative ways to stop using the fossil fuels which are already depleting for the near future. Biofuels include under this designation ethanol, derivatives of plants namely sugar cane, corn oils and vegetables. Nonetheless, not all products made from ethanol can be used to generate power. The agency catering for international energy has concluded that ethanol can be used to supply ten percent of the total amounts of gasoline necessary to mankind starting from 2025, and thirty percent of it until 2050. Until now, the percentage remains relatively low, only two percent.

Nonetheless, we can still find a solution to make way for economic and practical changes in the ways biofuels will affect the current and future trends in energy. Studies carried out by scientists have pointed out so far that biofuel can be as much energy efficient as petroleum and traditional fossil fuels. With this in mind, we can easily make an impression on which one will prove to be the most effective in the long term. We need incredulous amounts of energy to provide input energy and this can be done by ensuring that we find some sort of energy source that will not deplete itself. Currently, fossil fuel resources are being depleted at high levels, therefore it is important to have a backup plan that might become the norm in some years from now on. Research has also pointed out that products made from corn ethanol derived sources is twenty percent efficient, compared to the relative success of gasoline, accounting for seventy five percent energy efficiency.

Therefore, it is important to point out that despite the fact that alternative energies and thus biofuels are under research, the ethanol derived from cellulose proved to be eighty five percent efficient, therefore even more that the efficiency of gasoline.

For instance, analysis inside the NYSE, the stock exchange of New York, predict a much wider scale and availability of biofuels to be used to create energy. By spanning the area of the impact of this technology, oil prices can be reduced and thus they can even drop under the crude amount of forty dollars per barrel or even less. Therefore, it is easily possible and predictable that the alternative energy industry would definitely have a negative impact on fossil fuel industries. Some analyses predict that alternative energies, thus biofuels will supply seven percent of total energy demands for transportation by 2030. Therefore, the energy market will definitely be affected in an irreversible way that will make institutions and government authorities unable to regulate the impact of biofuels. If the government nonetheless, agrees to subsidize firm and thus encourage the distribution of biofuels, then the eco friendly alternative will stand more chances in becoming the norm.

Worldwide, there are more nations involved and committed to promoting the usage of biofuels against the usage of more traditional fuels.

These countries include Brazil, who occurs to be the biggest producer of ethanol of them all. It produces ethanol mainly from sugar, around half a billion gallons each year of ethanol production.

While it is the largest consumer of fuels on earth at the moment, the US is also the second largest country producing biofuels, just behind Brazil. Thus, the biofuel quantity produced by the European Union amounts for up to four million tons of biofuel. About eighty percent of the amount of biodiesel fuels coming from the EU is obtained from rapeseed; the rest of it comes from soybean oils and well as some palm oil quantity . These sources represent the remaining twenty percent of the production of biofuel in Europe.

Voice or data is communicated through these cell phones over a network of stations. Cell phones have all the features of a general telephone and also have various specialized features.

History and Overview:

Cellular Network was initially proposed by Bell Labs in the year 1947. He was the first person to establish cellular network in the year 1970 in Chicago. After that Japan launched the first mobile phone service in the year 1978. With the advent of time, there has been tremendous improvement in the mobile phone technology and in the year 1996, mobile phone giant Nokia launched its first multi use smart phone Nokia communicator which had the facility of internet connectivity and email services.

Cell phone handsets:

Cell phone handsets are the devices which are used for communication purposes. There are a wide rang of handsets with varying features which are being produced by manufacturers worldwide. Currently, Nokia is holding the largest chunk of market share of cell phones and is regarded as world`s largest manufacturer of mobile phone handsets.

Other major names in the list of cell phone manufacturers include Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, LG etc. These cell phones work on rechargeable batteries which obtain power from electric current, solar, dynamo, car battery charger etc. Before using a handset it needs to be activated with a SIM card provided by a mobile phone service provider who will also allot a unique number for your phone.

Features of Cell Phones:

Apart from having almost all the features of a normal telephone the cell phone also has various other unique features which make them very useful in today`s busy life schedule. These features include music, mp3 player, in built high pixel still and movie camera, personal organizer functions, Internet connectivity with browsing and emailing facility, different ring tones both inbuilt and with a facility to download, blue tooth and infra red connectivity etc.

Cell phones are also able to receive and send faxes if it is connected to a computer. Apart from Short messaging service (SMS), Cell phones are also enabled to send pictures and videos through Multimedia messaging service (MMS).

Uses of Cell Phone:

Cell phones are now widely used by both civilians and government agencies. Government agencies use mobile phones extensively for law enforcement, military purposes, disaster management etc. In the usage of cell phones, you must be particular about maintaining the culture and customs.

It is not decent to use your mobile phone while sitting in an important meeting. It is desirable that you switch off your phone when in any funeral or libraries or cinema halls etc. Most schools and colleges have restricted the use of mobile phones in their premises.

Beliefs about health and environment hazards and safety concerns:

Several concerns regarding human health resulting as an impact of mobile phone usage has been raised from time to time. There have been dermatological concerns such as occurrence of rashes on ears and cheeks of the users, hearing problems in the ear, heart problems concern etc.

Environmental hazards such as electronic waste and safety hazards in usage of the cell phone have been of great concern. There has been an increase in accidents by drivers while talking on cell phones. Road accidents while using a cell phone are on an increase. High rise towers of the cellular networks are also a cause of concern to flying aircrafts and birds.

The tremendous benefits of connectivity in all locations wherever you are have outshined the disadvantages and health concerns of cell phone and the number of cell phone users is rising day by day.

Technomic, a major foodservice industry consultant, reports that in 2007, sales of the Leading 100 chain restaurants in the United Kingdom rose to £10.4 billion, and represented about 35 percent of all restaurant sales.

What do these hospitality industry giants have in common? Technology. From point-of-sales (POS) and table-management software to wireless headsets, and SMS-enabled tracking systems, technology has become the key to success in the restaurant industry. No matter their size - whether a small, family-owned independent or a large dine-in chain - every restaurant will need to make use of enabling technologies to remain competitive in Britain’s growing restaurant market.

Benefits of Restaurant Technology Clear

The leading chain restaurants have been taking the lead as early adopters of technological solutions to traditional industry related challenges, such as improving productivity, reducing labor costs, and maximizing sales. In particular, the fast-service chains have focused on meeting the ever-growing consumer demand for convenience and value by using technology to deliver better value and passing the savings on to customers. Fifty percent of quick-service operators plan to make even greater investments in technology over the period ahead.

Most recently, technological applications are being used to help restaurateurs streamline ordering, reduce ticket times, shore up inventory control, and perfect kitchen organization, while improving accuracy at every stage of the order-to-table process.

Tapping Into Your Target Market

In this respect, many owners of takeaway restaurants are turning to the power of the Internet. For example, Domino’s Pizza has realized a 42 percent increase in online ordering over the past 12 months. The trend toward Web-enabled online ordering systems promises to help many restaurants rapidly expand their customer bases, while realizing significant savings in marketing costs. Approximately 30 million people, or roughly 57 percent of UK households, have access to the Internet.

Other innovative restaurateurs are adopting systems that enable customer to place pick-up and delivery orders via text-messaging. At the fore of such systems are integrated solutions that combine the power of wireless services to track orders from receipt, through the entire preparation and delivery process to the customer’s front door.

Why Your Restaurant Business N-E-E-D-S a POS System and SMS Printer

The SMS printer is unique in that, unlike PCs for online ordering or fax machines, it may be placed right in the kitchen. All the unit needs is a power outlet, as it operates on the mobile phone network. Staff need not run to check for online or faxed orders every 5 minutes – they are printed instantly on the cooking line.

POS technology is also having big impact across all sectors of the hospitality industry. Some early adopters have reported a pick-up in service speed of 20 to 30 percent. Moreover, these systems make the orders easier to read and transmit through the kitchen and preparation process, while leaving critical wait staff on the floor.

These systems also eliminate mistakes and miscommunications, which also contribute to speed and service - perhaps the two most crucial commodities in the restaurant industry. Using POS and an SMS printer together, any establishment can organize and streamline in-house, takeaway and delivery order processing inexpensively and effortlessly.
