Of the 14 professions in WoW, Engineering is one that is of high value in the end game. In this guide I’m going to give you the basics of this profession as well as share some tips and tricks for making large sums of gold with this profession.
The Engineering Profession can be learned by all classes in WoW but Engineering is, in my opinion best suited to the Hunter. The reason I say this is that Hunters primary weapons make full use of what Engineers produce – scopes, gun, bullets, etc.
Gnomes are the only race that receive a bonus from Engineering. While this might help you at lower levels, by the time you have a high level this advantage would have cancelled itself out.
Mining is probably the most appropriate gathering profession to go with Engineering so make sure you pick this when you start. To find both the Mining and Engineering trainers ask the guard as you are leaving the newbie zone.
The one tool I recommend you make as soon as you can (you’ll need to have a skill level of 450) is a Gnomish Army Knife. You can make this knife regardless of your players’ level so work on your engineering and make it ASAP – this tool has a heap of extremely useful applications.
The reason I suggested that you choose Mining as your gathering profession is because to improve your Engineering skill you need a heap of metal. The other benefit to being a miner is that you will also be able to make a heap of gold as Mining is one of the most lucrative professions in WoW.
One negative you might come across as an Enineer is that you won’t be able to sell everything you create. That’s because not all players can use the items you create, some items are just too technical for non-engineers. You can still make a wide variety of items that will serve as cash cows however, so go after the gold with those.
